Materials for Energy Efficient Buildings

This is a two-part project that will develop and combine nanocrystalline cellulose foam and phase change materials to improve the energy efficiency of the built environment.

Keywords: thermal insulation, (nano)porosity, foam, phase change materials, thermal inertia, U-value

Objectives:

  • To develop a high performance bio-based thermal insulation material from waste.
  • To develop a new generation of phase change materials which will meet the required performance benchmarks, economic viability and environmental and health standards; a portfolio of PCMs for specific application areas (building envelopes, coatings, etc.)
  • To develop an integral solution for dynamically optimized inner spaces
