InnoRenew CoE researchers publish article about nondestructive evaluation of heritage object coatings

Dr Anna Sandak, Dr Jakub Sandak, Faksawat Poohphajai, Dr René Herrera Díaz, Dr Veerapandian Ponnuchamy, Nežka Sajinčič, Dr Oihana Gordobil and Dr Črtomir Tavzes, InnoRenew CoE researchers, together with colleagues Lea Legan, Dr Klara Retko, Maša Kavčič, Dr Janez Kosel and Dr Polona Ropret, from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, recently published an article, “Nondestructive Evaluation of Heritage Object Coatings with Four Hyperspectral Imaging Systems”, in Coatings.

This article presents their research about advanced imaging techniques, namely hyperspectral imaging used for nondestructive characterization of materials and its potential to be used in conservation treatments for cultural heritage objects. This technique allows identification and characterization of an object’s coloring agents, binders and protective coatings.

Coatings is an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal with an impact factor of 2.436 that is published monthly and features contributions about coatings and surface engineering.
