At InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM, the 4th General Assembly of the WoodStock project took place from 21 to 23 April 2026. The project is focused on developing sustainable, circular and zero-waste solutions for the use of wood in construction and supporting the New European Bauhaus initiative.
The WoodStock (Empowering climate-smart, circular, and zero-waste use of underutilized wood from the forest and building stock in the construction sector to support the New European Bauhaus) project meeting, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, brought together partners to review project progress, align upcoming activities and discuss key results from individual work packages. Presentations covered a wide range of topics, including wood resource analysis and material flow assessment, environmental impact evaluation, development of zero-waste solutions for timber construction, human health and well-being in the built environment, as well as the development of policies, standards and strategies for wider adoption of multi-storey timber construction in Europe.
Participants also visited the Archaeological Park Simonov Zaliv, where they learned about a case study of a Roman villa conducted by the University of Primorska. This was followed by a workshop with architects, focusing on the use of sustainable timber construction solutions with the aim of developing a clear concept that responds to the historical context, enhances the visitor experience and explores new ways of using wood. Additionally, a session was dedicated to the WoodBook development, which aims to promote sustainable design practices and facilitate the use of environmentally friendly approaches in construction through the reuse of wood.
InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM actively participates in the project and leads the work package focused on human health and well-being in the built environment, as well as the European Observatory for Wood Construction and the NEB Lab. Researchers contribute to the development of methods for integrating health aspects into wood-based built environments, assessing the acceptability of underutilised wood resources and developing the openly accessible European Observatory for Wood Construction (EWCO). In addition, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM hosts one of the six living labs in the project.
The meeting further strengthened collaboration among partners and contributed to the continued development of innovative, sustainable and circular solutions for wood construction in Europe.
