International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on 11 February. The aim of this day is to promote women and girls in science, and it is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.

InnoRenew CoE currently employs 55 people, more than half of them are women. Additionally, there are 22 women in the research department and 5 female researchers are enrolled in the PhD programme.

Dr Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, said: “Science is a wonderful profession! On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, I wish that more and more women would choose to contribute to the development of society by stepping into the shoes of fellow scientists.”

Women researchers at the institute were also successful in winning prestigious projects, such as the ERC project “Bioinspired living skin for architecture” (ARCHI-SKIN) and the EIC Pathfinder project REMEDY “Archibiome Tattoo for Resistant, Responsive, and Resilient Cities” project. Both are led by Dr Anna Sandak, InnoRenew CoE’s Deputy Director.
