Representatives of InnoRenew CoE and University of Primorska visited Ukraine to continue the process of establishing the Ukrainian NEB Academy hub with partners and to focus on post-war reconstruction according to the principles of the New European Buhaus – Sustainable, Beautiful, Together.
Dr. Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, Dr. Michael Burnard, InnoRenew CoE Deputy Director and Aleš Oven, University of Primorska Asistant Rector, visited Ukraine on 19 and 20 November.
First, they visited Lviv City Hall and met with the city’s Chief Architect, Anton Kolomieitsev, who presented the city’s reformed spatial plans.
They then continued their journey to Kiev, where they held a workshop on sustainable reconstruction in Ukraine in line with the European Union’s ambitious climate targets with representatives from various authorities, higher education, architectural offices, the construction sector, NGOs and other stakeholders. This is a further step towards integrating the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) into the rapid reconstruction process, including sustainable construction, inclusiveness and aesthetic quality.
Under the coordination of the University of Primorska, the NEB Academy has been created to up-skill and re-skill construction professionals across Europe. To this end, various hubs are being developed across Europe to contribute to the responsible and sustainable reconstruction of the country, and a new hub is under construction in Ukraine. The workshop aimed at bringing together local experts and laying the foundations for the future hub.
By fostering collaboration between different experts and stakeholders, the NEB Academy Hub Ukraine has the potential to fill knowledge gaps and transform Ukraine’s reconstruction process by embedding the principles of sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics.
The visit and the meetings are part of the Rebuilding a Better Ukraine via the New European Bauhaus Academy (NEB Academy Hub Ukraine) initiative.
