Mariem Zouari and Sasikala Perumal, InnoRenew CoE researchers, visited the Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in Trabzon, Turkey.
During the visit they met with Dr. Ali Temiz and his research group members. Following they discussed and concluded work that was done in the framework of bilateral project Enhanced wood properties of low-grade timber through densification coupled with natural, plant-based polymers.
They also discussed and evaluated the possibility of using epoxidation process to benefit and support the current research work within the SEAFARER Protein- based adhesive for high-performance indoor timber structures project (J4-4546). This project is attempting to improve the water resistance of protein-based adhesives derived from fish by-products by incorporation of epoxidized plant oil and/or polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a water-soluble agent with hydrophobicity.
