Dr. Iztok Šušteršič and Dr. Karen Butina Ogorelec, InnoRenew CoE researchers, took part in an online discussion From forests to homes – the future of sustainable construction, organised by STA, as part of the STAscience project.

The construction sector is responsible for approximately one third of all carbon dioxide emissions, which can be addressed by increasing the use of wood in construction. The discussion, which was attended also by Dr. Goran Turk, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Dr. Miha Humar, Professor at the Department of Wood Engineering at the Ljubljana Biotechnical Faculty, and Nataša Teraž Krois, Head of Development and Sustainability at the company Lumar, highlighted the situation in Slovenia regarding timber construction, the challenges that the timber and construction sectors are facing, and the construction of the future.
