New scientific article about physical activity during COVID-19 restrictions

Dr. Michael Mrissa and Dr. Jan Včelák, InnoRenew CoE researchers, together with Vít Janovský, Czech Technical University in Prague and former research visitor at InnoRenew CoE, Marek Piorecký, Czech Technical University in Prague’s Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, and the National Institute of Mental Health, recently published a scientific article, “Measuring the Physical Activity of Seniors before and during COVID-19 Restrictions in the Czech Republic,” in Healthcare.

Social workers require a better understanding of the impact of pandemic measures on their clients’ level of physical activity to best target client activation.

“In this study, we examined changes in the physical activity of the elderly population in the Czech Republic as a result of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” the authors wrote in the article’s abstract.

The authors found that 33 percent of participants increased their physical activity levels in the period following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Central Europe.
