Dr. Kutnar with Croatian minister Darko Horvat at the Wood in Construction conference

Dr. Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, attended the “Wood in Construction” conference, which took place on 8 February 2022 in Opatija, Croatia.

Dr. Kutnar presented InnoRenew CoE and its establishment, operation and research activities. Further, she met with Darko Horvat, Croatian minister of physical planning, construction and state assets. They discussed about the mandatory amount of wood in public buildings and how the research institute can contribute to enhancing the innovation potential of the sector and the use of wood in the built environment.

The main goal of the conference was to share possibilities for greater use of wood in construction and examples of good practice. Moreover, participants discussed Croatia’s strategy for the transition to a low-carbon society and legal obligations to use 30 percent of wood in the construction of public buildings.

The conference was organized by Croatia’s Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets in collaboration with the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology.
