New scientific article about wood sawing and sustainable use of natural resources

Dr. Jakub Sandak, InnoRenew CoE researcher, together with Kazimierz A. Orlowski and Daniel Chuchala from the Institute of Manufacturing and Materials Technology at the Gdańsk University of Technology, Marcin Szczepanski and Wojciech Migda from the EkoTech Center at the Gdańsk University of Technology and Wiktoria Wojnicz from the Institute of Mechanics and Machine Design at the Gdańsk University of Technology, published a scientific article, “Lateral forces determine dimensional accuracy of the narrow-kerf sawing of wood”, in Scientific Reports.

The study presented in the article was to “better understand the causes of machining errors that occur when sawing wood with saws of varying thickness of kerf, with a special focus on re-sawing thin lamellae performed on the gang saw.”

The developed methodology could lead to more sustainable use of natural resources as well as an increase in economic gain for wood processing industries.
