Dr Tavzes attends roundtable discussion about legislative changes Fit for 55

On Tuesday, 7 September 2021, RRA Zeleni kras, in collaboration with the Republic of Slovenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Wood Industry Directorate, Association for the Protection of Wood of Slovenia, SPIRIT Slovenia – Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia and the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Postojna, organized a roundtable discussion about the new legislative changes Fit for 55 and the official opening of the Charm of Wood at Krpanov dom in Pivka, Slovenia.

Dr Črtomir Tavzes, InnoRenew CoE researcher, led a roundtable discussion where they discussed the new legislative changes Fit for 55 (Ready for 55), which was launched by the European Commission in July and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the EU by at least 55% by 2030.

This new legislation is a big opportunity for the wood industry, and Danilo Anton Ranc, Director-General of the Wood Industry Directorate, Dr Franc Pohleven, Charm of Wood organizer, Igor Milavec, Director of the Wood and Furniture Industry Associations, Branko Meh, Director of the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia and Miha Movrin, Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, joined the discussion.

InnoRenew CoE’s study “Fit for 55 — Potentials of using natural resources in achieving climate goals”, done in collaboration with Deloitte d.o.o. and commissioned by Slovenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, was also presented at the event.

After the discussion, participants visited the Charm of Wood exhibition, which will be in Pivka until the end of September.
