Servite monastery renovation begins

The University of Primorska (UP), one InnoRenew CoE’s four founders, has begun renovation of the Servite monastery in Koper.

For this occasion, Dr Klavdija Kutnar, UP’s rector, emphasized that the Servite monastery is a cultural heritage building of national importance; thus, UP will approach its renovation with all the necessary care and expertise.

“We want to carry out the renovation of the Servite monastery in harmony with our research work and include experts from our faculties,” Dr Kutnar said.

Dr Iztok Šušteršič, InnoRenew CoE’s Sustainable Building with Renewable Materials research group leader, presented the renovation’s technical aspects.

“I have already participated in several renovations of historic buildings, but I have never experienced such attachment and care for the building as shown by the people of Koper in the case of the Servite monastery,” Dr Šušteršič said.

Renovation will begin with the roof and will use sustainable materials, especially wood. UP plans to create content for the renovated building that is interesting for the Koper community and beneficial to its well-being.
