New scientific article about gluing quality of solid wood products

Dr Jakub Sandak and Dr Anna Sandak, InnoRenew CoE researchers, together with Andreas Hänsel and Juana Mai from Saxon University of Cooperative Education, Germany, and Peter Niemz from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, published an article, “Selected previous findings on the factors influencing the gluing quality of solid wood products in timber construction and possible developments: A review”, in Wood Material Science & Engineering.

“The aim of the work is to systematize the state of knowledge of wood gluing to create a basis for controlled and stable manufacturing processes,” the authors stated in the article’s abstract.

Bonding quality of elements used for timber construction are affected by various factors. According to the industry, gluing of hardwood species is the most challenging one, therefore, special focus was dedicated to this topic. The article ends with several open research questions to that matter and recommends possible solutions.
