InnoRenew CoE researchers publish article about hemp/PLA composites

Dr Laetitia Marrot and Dr Michael Burnard, InnoRenew CoE researchers, together with colleagues from Tallinn University of Technology, Slovenia’s Pulp and Paper Institute and the University of Primorska’s Andrej Marušič Institute, recently published an article, “Impact of Alkali and Silane Treatment on Hemp/PLA Composites’ Performance: From Micro to Macro Scale”, in Polymers, a peer-reviewed journal of polymer science.

“We investigated the effect of hemp fiber pretreatments combined with silane treatment, and we demonstrated the applicability of locally grown, frost-retted hemp fibers for the development of bio-based composites with low density,” Dr Marrot said.

Polymers is published semimonthly by MDPI. It is an online, open access journal with an impact factor of 3.426.
