Dr Marrot completed STSM at CIRAD in France

Dr Laetitia Marrot, researcher in InnoRenew CoE’s Renewable Materials Composites group, successfully applied for a short-term scientific mission (STSM) with COST Action CA17107–European Network to connect research and innovation efforts on advanced Smart Textiles (CONTEXT).

Dr Marrot visited the research unit Biomass, Wood, Energy, Bioproducts, BioWooEB, at CIRAD, the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development in Montpelier, France. She spent two weeks there working on characterization of biochars made from hemp properties, which are used as UV stabilizers for the protection of textile materials. Evidence for linking biocarbon particles with their manufacturing processes was provided, allowing production of controlled microstructure biocarbon.

Moreover, Dr Marrot visited CIRAD’s Biomass & Energy Platform, which houses semi-industrial equipment and a xylotheque where 34,000 samples from 8,400 wood species are gathered.
