Wood magic at the University of Primorska and at the InnoRenew CoE

28th September 2018

Also this year the University of Primorska decided to join the event European Researcher’s Night 2018. The event is taking place every year, the last Friday of September in all countries of the European Union.

The main purpose of the event is to popularize science. The events showcase what researchers really do for society in interactive and engaging ways, promoting research careers to young people and their parents. The European Researcher’s Night is cofounded by the European Commission as a part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.

This year’s European Researcher’s Night 2018 within the University of Primorska was held in the framework of the project “SAWE – Safe with Science” at four locations – in Izola at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Archaeological Park in Simon’s bay, and in Koper, in the yard of the Rectorate of the University and in the Galeb UP FAMNIT building, where also our researchers opened the door of their lab.

Dr Črtomir Tavzes and Jaka Pečnik welcomed the visitors in the Wood Magic lab where they presented the different uses of wood, from the paper to the construction of wooden towers. They presented wood composites, why we are producing them and why we are modifying wood. Moreover they briefly showed the basic methods for testing the mechanical properties of wood.

We are glad that the Wood Magic lab was warmly accepted and visited by numerous and diverse visitors –  from older people, students, as well as by younger kids.
