The 10th edition of the exhibition Charm of Wood (Čar lesa) opened this Monday, 14.5.2018 at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.
The organizers of the exhibition also prepared a scientific conference »The role of science in wood innovations« which took place on Tuesday 15th May. The director of the InnoRenew CoE Dr Andreja Kutnar moderated the conference. Among eight speakers three were researchers of the InnoRenew CoE – Dr Jure Pohleven, Dr Michael Burnard, and Dr Matthew Schwarzkopf.
The conference started with the welcoming speech of the main organizer Dr Franc Pohleven and of Dr Milan Šernek from the Department of Wood Science at the Biotechnical faculty.
The InnoRenew CoE researcher Dr Mathew Schwarzkopf presented his research work on residues of agricultural production for value-added timber products and discussed the related Horizon2020 project (Pro-Enrich) on waste materials from olive oil production.
The Deputy Director and the Research Group Leader of Human Health in the Built Environment Dr Michael Burnard presented the use wood to enhance health and wellbeing in buildings. He also presented research that he conducted for his doctoral thesis where he found that wooden furniture positively affects human wellbeing.
InnoRenew CoE researcher Dr Jure Pohleven discussed his research findings of the beneficial effects of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from wood to humans.
The conference ended with a presentation about ergonomics and office furniture design. Dr Nejc Šarabon from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Primorska discussed the future pilot research of an active office. The InnoRenew CoE will be a part of this research project.
On Wednesday 16th May the organizers of the Charm of Wood prepared an expert roundtable about the guidelines and innovations of wood coatings. InnoRenew CoE assistant researcher Dean Lipovac attended the event and presented his research about the perception of wood compared to other materials.
The exhibition Charm of Wood will take place at Cankarjev dom until 20th May.
