Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf is the Renewable Materials Composites Research Group leader at the InnoRenew CoE an associate professor at the University of Primorska.
He earned his PhD in 2014 from Oregon State University (Oregon, USA) with a dual major in wood science and materials science. Matthew holds an MS in wood science from Oregon State University (Oregon, USA 2009) and a BS in forestry from Iowa State University (Iowa, USA 2007).
His research focuses on agricultural biomass utilization, wood-adhesive interactions, optical measurement techniques, wood-plastic composites, and wood modification techniques. He is currently involved in a variety of international projects with topics including flexible structural adhesives, bark-derived chemicals, fish-based adhesives, and bio-based impregnants for wood modification.
When he isn’t in the lab, Matthew enjoys working in the garden, rock climbing and longboarding.
