Dr Jakub Sandak at Oregon State University

Dr Jakub Sandak, researcher in the InnoRenew CoE’s Wood Modification group, was invited by the Oregon State University College of Forestry in Corvallis, Oregon (USA) to attend and participate in the 24th International Wood Machining Seminar.

The aim of the five-day seminar, held 25-30 August 2019, was to gather academics and professionals in the advanced wood machining sector to share knowledge and explore emerging technologies . The first seminar was organized in 1963.

This year’s programme started with the keynote presentation, “History of the International Wood Machining Seminars” and was followed by 11 sessions, including a session on sensors and quality control that Dr Sandak chaired.

The other sessions addressed wood machining, novel products and production processes, veneer production, and sanding and dust mitigation. Among them, there was also a poster session and two-day post-seminar tour, which was a great opportunity for Dr Sandak and his fellow participants to visit many of Oregon’s wood product companies.
