WoodPoP Policy Brief published for the upcoming FP10 programme

The WoodPoP Policy Brief “Wood for Europe’s future: FP10 as the engine of decarbonisation and competitiveness” has been published. It highlights the strategic potential of Europe’s forests and wood resources for the green, digital and circular transitions.

The European forest and wood resources remain underused and underexploited in EU industry and climate strategies. For the upcoming FP10 programme (2028–2034), the brief highlights that wood science, technology and innovation must be integrated across all four pillars. Priority challenges include economic growth, climate adaptation, decarbonisation, digital traceability, inclusive governance and skills development.

FP10 should also focus on scaling low-carbon construction, developing circular wood systems, advancing climate-smart and sustainable forestry and deploying digital solutions for transparency. Special attention is given to high-risk innovation, circular use of wood and the application of New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles.

The Policy Brief calls for urgent and coordinated action to fully leverage the potential of Europe’s forestry and wood sector as a foundation for resilience, growth, climate neutrality, circularity and innovation.
