The project Smart Indoor Lighting System for the Elderly – SHINE was developed in the framework of projects “the creative path to knowledge” (po kreativni poti do znanja) which are aimed to foster collaboration between higher education system and the industry. Moreover, they offer students a possibility to gain competencies and experiences that are needed for transitioning from the school system into working life. The programme is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the European Union. The focus is for students to find creative and innovative solutions to practical challenges in the corporate sector. These students are guided by mentors offering expert support.
The assistant researcher at the InnoRenew CoE Marko Posavčević is collaborating in this project as a volunteer. The aim of the project is to combine modern ICT, principles of ergonomics and building design, and produce a responsive, self-learning indoor lighting system, that will be adapted to meet specific needs of older users.
The students from the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies and from the Faculty of Health Sciences from the University of Primorska collaborating on the project have the opportunity to work with the industry partner Riko Hiše. Specific knowledge from the field of indoor light and luminaire design will be contributed also by Luccio Gobbo, now retired light designer and project manager at Intra Lighting d.o.o.
The project connects students, companies or organizations, and educational institutions. Students gain practical knowledge and experience, organizations gain help with problem solving and faculties can connect theory with practice in their study programmes.
InnoRenew CoE is also collaborating on the project RecAPPture.
