InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM participated in the international doctoral seminar titled “Emerging Trends in Research and Design Applications for the Decarbonisation and Innovation: The Contribution of Timber Buildings”, which took place online on 20 May 2026 and was organised in collaboration with the University of Ferrara.
The seminar featured contributions from Dr. Pietromaria Davoli and Dr. Marta Calzolari from University of Ferrara, who introduced the program and its thematic focus, followed by Jacopo Sazzini, who presented on timber and the decarbonisation of the built environment, highlighting the role of design in systemic transformation. Dr. Massimo Rossetti, from IUAV University of Venice presented about innovation, circularity and inclusion in wood-based construction systems, while Dr. Jacopo Andreotti, from Politecnico di Torino focused on whole life carbon assessment tools for buildings, with an emphasis on timber. The program concluded with Dr. Pietromaria Davoli and Dr. Marta Calzolari presenting a timber building case from the Solar Decathlon Middle East.
Within the seminar, dr. Andreja Kutnar, department chair of InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM, also participated and delivered a lecture titled “Living with Wood”. In her contribution, she presented current trends in the innovative and sustainable use of wood in construction, as well as the role of wood within the framework of the New European Bauhaus. She also shared the initiative of Slovenia to declare November 7 as International Day of Living with Wood.
