InnoRenew CoE researchers are investigating a combined modification approach to reduce the set-recovery behaviour of densified wood under moisture and heat exposure. In this study, thermal modification was applied after THM densification at 200 °C for 2 hours using a Tube Furnace Nabertherm RSRC 120-1000/13.
The next step is to evaluate the bending strength, stiffness, and bending creep behaviour at elevated temperatures of three groups: untreated reference wood, thermally modified wood, and wood treated with thermal modification combined with THM densification.
This work will help clarify how combined modification processes can improve the dimensional stability and thermo-mechanical performance of wood.
