InnoRenew CoE contributes to research about the impact of space on engineered living materials

As part of the Slovenian-Hungarian project led by the company Genesis, this summer, a Falcon 9 rocket will carry the Nyx capsule with a biological incubator into orbit. Among the thousands of samples that will be tested in space conditions are also research materials from InnoRenew CoE.

InnoRenew CoE has sent a fungal biofilm, developed within the ARCHI-SKIN project, into orbit. The research team from the ERC project ARCHI-SKIN secured several spots on the satellite to conduct the experiment with the fungal biofilm, which can be used for material protection. This will be the first study to examine the impact of space on engineered living materials.
