The Municipality of Izola, in cooperation with JZP Izola and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, hosted the 94th meeting of the Bureau of the Contracting Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean and its Protocols, at the premises of InnoRenew CoE.
In December 2023, Slovenia will also host the 23rd Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, when it will take over the two-year presidency of the Convention for the period 2024-2025.
This year’s meeting of the Barcelona Convention Bureau, which was attended also by Uroš Brežan, Minister of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, was marked by preparations for this event and the preparation and approval of the content of the Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention. This will be one of the major foreign policy and environmental opportunities for Slovenia, as the newly selected non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The Bureau of the States Parties to the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean is an important governing body that guides the programme and content of activities and promotes the effective implementation of the Barcelona Convention.
Eva Prelovšek Niemelä, InnoRenew CoE researcher and architect, also presented the InnoRenew CoE building, research laboratories and state-of-the-art research equipment.
