Transfer of InnoRenew CoE’s knowledge and best practice in the renovation of the Hotel de Len where wood has a principal role

InnoRenew CoE collaborated in the renovation of the Hotel de Len,  located in the heart of Italian Dolomites, in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The renovation included research work of architects Gris+Dainese, University of Primorska and InnoRenew CoE,

The hotel structure is the object of the study, and the experimentation was mainly focused on the use of wood primarily as an element of wellbeing, and secondary theurface and furnishing element, on natural and artificial light, and on ergonomics. The correlation among space, colors, light, materials, ergonomics, and the psyche was explored by drawing inspiration from surrounding environment and utilizing neuropsychological knowledge. This investigation provided a means of attaining optimal comfort in architecture and addressing the needs of individuals who prioritize their health. The concept of well-being is no longer limited to physical activity, and this research offers a solution to accommodate the evolving definition of wellness.

Hotel de Len was in November 2022 recognized among the 42 best new hotels according to National Geographic, and winner of the Snow Queen category, which is dedicated to hotels in the mountains.

Read more about the hotel and why it benefits to the environment and the human psyche in the article “Hotel de Len, Cortina d’Ampezzo. A tale of wood and mountains”, published online in the journal Lampoon.
