InnoRenew CoE hosted Dr. Maija Kymäläinen, a postdoctoral researcher from the wood material science and technology research group at Aalto University.

Dr. Kymäläinen met with InnoRenew CoE researchers and discussed surface charring as a modification method for wooden claddings.

Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf collaborated with her on measuring surface roughness with one of InnoRenew CoE’s microscopes to characterize a surface that has been charred using different techniques.

She also presented her research at the institute’s staff meeting and toured its building and laboratories.
