Timber construction featured on “Ambienti”

The television show “Ambienti” features Slovenian houses and apartments, stories from Slovenian real estate owners, and experts’ experience with design and architecture. In each show, one special or interesting house that deviates from the average is presented, and the renovation methods and space arrangements, especially in public buildings and gardens, are discussed.

On 2 October 2021, “Ambienti” focused on wood as a symbol of Slovenia and a material that brings well-being into the built environment. This is also one of the key research topics at InnoRenew CoE. Through their projects, the institute’s researchers examine how closely human health is connected to the built environment — working, learning and living — and how the use of natural and renewable materials, such as wood, can further enhance human well-being.

Dr. Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, was filmed for “Ambienti” in the newly renovated Hotel Bohinj, which strives for sustainability and care for the environment and used wood and natural materials in the renovation process.

Dr. Kutnar specified that anyone who wants to build with wood can reach out to research institutions.

“There is no doubt that at InnoRenew CoE we will welcome and talk to you about the best way to use wood in renovation or in the construction of a new building,” she said.

Greater use of wood is also encouraged through Slovenia’s national strategies, such as the Green Public Procurement Regulation, as well as European efforts to decarbonize the Member States.

Everyone is invited to watch “Ambienti”, available here, to learn more about wooden construction and success stories from Slovenia.
