3rd Karelia Symposium: ‘Unlimited Possibilities of Wood’

25. April 2017

Dr. Andreja Kutnar was a keynote speaker at the 3rd Karelia Symposium: ‘Unlimited Possibilities of Wood’ at Itä-Suomen yliopisto – University of Eastern Finland (UEF). She discussed the InnoRenew Centre of Excellence and one of its main research areas, REED (Restorative Environmental and Ergonomic Design), which deals with health and well-being effects of wood products. The uniqueness of this building design paradigm lies in its aim not only to minimize environmental harm, but also to create positive impacts on the natural environment, building users, and society in general.

Other topics discussed during the conference included wood microstructure, biorefining wood biomasses, innovative wood-based building solutions, and health and well-being effects of wood products.

Along with prof. Dr.-Ing. Peer Haller from the Technical University of Dresden (Germany), and Dr. Henrik Heräjärvi from Luke Natural Resources Institute Finland, Dr. Kutnar was also able to enjoy some Finnish blue skies.
