As part of the FurnitureLCA project, researchers from InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM, in collaboration with four partners from Poland, Belgium and Spain, have developed a methodology to raise awareness among representatives of the furniture industry about the importance of life cycle assessment (LCA) and to prepare them for conducting it. An important part of the project are also workshops aimed at providing participants with knowledge about the use of LCA in product design and preparing them to conduct life cycle assessments of their products.

In cooperation with the Wood Industry Cluster, Dr. Črtomir Tavzes, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM researcher, conducted a workshop for participants of the reBUILD project, which brought together representatives of the furniture industry from Ukraine, Romania, Spain and Slovenia, held on 18 September 2026 in Celje.

During the workshop, participants learned about the specific aspects of conducting LCA in the furniture industry and the key steps involved in preparing an assessment. These include defining the goals and scope of the assessment, collecting data on the materials used, energy consumption during the manufacturing and use of products, transport and scenarios for the use of materials at the end of the products’ life cycle.

Dr. Tavzes also presented the tools developed as part of the FurnitureLCA project. The participants also discussed the potential applications of these tools and explored the benefits of using LCA as a planning tool in the design of furniture products.

The workshop provided an opportunity for representatives of the furniture industry from different European countries to exchange knowledge and experiences and opened a discussion on the possibilities of incorporating life cycle assessment into the planning and development processes of furniture products.
