Project REMEDY Presented During EIC President Michiel Scheffer’s Visit to TU Graz

On September 2, 2026, Michiel Scheffer, President of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Board, visited Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) to discuss European innovation policy and the future of deep-tech funding.

The visit focused on how European funding ecosystems can support the scale-up of high-risk, high-impact technologies and help bridge the gap between academic research and industrial market readiness.

As part of the visit, Project REMEDY was selected as one of four EIC-funded projects to be showcased. Carole Planchette, who leads the REMEDY project team at TU Graz, presented the project’s vision, key milestones, and ongoing progress to President Scheffer and the accompanying delegation.

The exchange highlighted REMEDY’s strong alignment with the EIC’s mission to support breakthrough technologies addressing complex societal and industrial challenges.

Archibiome tattoo for resistant, responsive, and resilient cities (REMEDY) project is coordinated by InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM and led by Dr. Anna Sandak, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM Materials research group leader and representative of the University of Primorska in the Technology Council for Advanced Materials of the European Commission. The project aims to develop innovative engineered living materials and biofabrication technologies for the next generation of sustainable and regenerative architecture. By combining microbiology, materials science, and advanced biofabrication approaches, REMEDY is developing functional microbial inks that can transform the design, performance and perception of building materials.
