Dr. Rok Prislan on engineered wood composites for quieter and healthier buildings

Dr. Rok Prislan, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM researcher, prepared the article Engineering wood composites for quieter and healthier buildings, published in the magazine Panels and Furniture Asia.

In the article, Dr. Prislan explores a novel wood-based resilient layer for impact sound insulation, using the natural elasticity of pre-bent beech wood laths combined with cork. The solution offers an alternative to conventional insulation materials while supporting acoustic comfort and sustainable construction.

The article presents research conducted at InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM on the development and testing of the wood-based resilient layer. Laboratory testing demonstrated acoustic performance comparable to established commercial solutions, while the bio-based and disassemblable design supports the repair, replacement and reuse of components.
