How can buildings in Koper’s historic town centre be renovated sustainably while preserving their heritage value? Which renovation challenges have the greatest impact on property owners, and what solutions could help reconcile residents’ needs for sustainable energy sources with the preservation of cultural heritage?

These questions will be discussed at a participatory workshop taking place on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Armeria in Koper (Titov trg 5).

The event is organized as part of the project Engaging Citizens in Building a Digital Twin for the Immovable Cultural Heritage in the Old Town of Koper, which aims to better understand the needs and experiences of property owners and involve them in the development of digital decision-support tools.

At the beginning of the event, we will present the key findings of surveys and interviews conducted with conservation experts, managers, and property owners. This will be followed by an interactive workshop session, during which participants will discuss specific challenges and potential solutions in small groups.

Topics of discussion will include:

• Raising awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage;
• Supporting property owners in the renovation of historic buildings;
• Opportunities for additional renovation funding;
• Improving access to information and advisory services;
• Identifying sustainable solutions for the renovation and management of buildings in the historic town centre.

We invite:

• Property owners in Koper’s historic town centre;
• Representatives of municipal authorities and other public institutions;
• Decision-makers and professionals working in the fields of cultural heritage, spatial planning, and sustainable development;
• Representatives of local organizations and associations;
• Anyone interested in the future of cultural heritage and the quality of life in the historic town centre.

Participants’ contributions and suggestions will provide an important basis for the project’s future work and for the development of recommendations that support sustainable renovation practices and more effective cultural heritage management in Koper.

The workshop will be conducted entirely in Slovenian.
