InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM hosted Discrete Mathematics Day on the Adriatic Coast (DMD AC 2026)

InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM hosted the Discrete Mathematics Day on the Adriatic Coast (DMD AC 2026) workshop on 12 May 2026. The event brought together 38 mathematicians from across the Adriatic region with the aim of strengthening academic collaboration and fostering new connections between universities and research institutions. The workshop was jointly organized by UP FAMNIT, UP IAM and SDAMS.

Several invited speakers are already engaged in ongoing collaborations with researchers at the University of Primorska, while others visited the university for the first time. Among them was Professor Marston Conder, who recently participated in the CSD 11 conference in Kranjska Gora, also organized in cooperation with SDAMS. Professor Akihiro Munemasa visited the University of Primorska for the first time and will also be an invited speaker at the 11th Slovenian Conference on Graph Theory, to be held from 20–26 June 2027 in Bled. These exchanges further strengthen international research cooperation and long-term academic partnerships.

The workshop also coincided with International Women in Mathematics Day, celebrated on 12 May in honor of the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman and the first Iranian to receive the Fields Medal. Established in 2019 by six regional women-in-mathematics associations, the initiative promotes equal opportunities in mathematics and highlights the achievements of women in the field worldwide.

In this spirit, the organizers were particularly pleased to welcome a number of distinguished women among the invited speakers and to highlight their scientific excellence and leadership.
