Dr. Mohammad Derikvand, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM researcher and Lifecycle extension of salvaged wooden materials through reuse in dowel-laminated timber (EcoDLT) project leader, prepared the article Lifecycle extension of salvaged wooden materials through reuse in dowel-laminated timber — EcoDLT, published in the magazine Panels and Furniture Asia.
The article focuses on the EcoDLT project, which investigates how reclaimed timber can be reused in dowel-laminated timber (DLT) floor systems without adhesives, extending the structural lifecycle of timber while reducing material processing and environmental impact.
It presents research conducted at InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM, with a particular focus on heritage and modern applications. A case study features timber reclaimed from the Servite Monastery in Koper, Slovenia, demonstrating how variable, irregular wood can be classified, engineered and reused in high-performance DLT systems, preserving both structural function and cultural value.
