Research article on BIM-based estimation of service life in wood construction elements

Dr. Jakub Sandak, Dr. Anna Sandak and Richard Acquah, InnoRenew CoE, UP IAM researchers, together with Jonas Niklewski from Lund University, recently published a new scientific article “BIM-based framework for estimating service life duration of wood construction elements under environmental exposure” in ScienceDirect.

In the article they examined how Building Information Modelling (BIM) can be used to more accurately predict the lifespan of wooden construction elements exposed to environmental conditions. By integrating factors such as material properties, design details and outdoor exposure into a BIM framework, the study demonstrates how BIM-based modelling can improve decision-making and support more reliable planning of durable wood structures.
