InnoRenew CoE continues to organize workshops about wood for primary school students

This year InnoRenew CoE, in cooperation with SPIRIT Slovenia, organized 29 educational thematic workshops promoting wood and woodworking for primary schools across Slovenia.

Between 9 September and 7 November 2025 they visited 10 schools to perform the workshops which were attended by 414 pupils.

The workshops introduced the concept of life cycle of wood, its physical and mechanical properties and the importance of sustainable use of natural resources in an engaging and interactive way.

The program included three thematic modules:

  • Experimental exploration of wood characteristics – pupils conducted hands-on experiments to test the strength, hardness and density of different types of wood and learned how these properties affect their use

  • Interactive learning about wood with digital tools – using the Mentimeter app, pupils dynamically explored how wood is formed, its use in industry and the variety of professions related to wood

  • Sustainable use of wood and environmental aspects – through presentations, pupils learned about the responsible use of wood, its role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and its contribution to reducing climate change.

With such workshops, InnoRenew CoE and SPIRIT Slovenia, encouraged young participants to creatively explore natural materials, understand the importance of sustainable development and appreciate nature as a future source. The initiative strengthens awareness of the importance of scientific research, innovation and responsible use of natural resources while promoting the integration of science, technology, and sustainability-oriented thinking among young people.
