WENUS project advancing sustainable construction

The Erasmus+ project WENUS – Wood Education for Sustainable Construction, aims to empower professionals and students to build a more sustainable future through innovative training in circular wood and timber construction.

The project enhances vocational educational training (VET) in sustainable wood and timber construction by integrating circular economy principles and 3D printing technologies into the curriculum. The project addresses the industry’s evolving needs for green and digital skills, and promoting innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.

Over the next two years, the WENUS project partners – Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), InnoRenew CoE, Technological Centre for Furniture and Wood of the Region of Murcia, and Globalnet – will develop a student-centred curriculum and tailored training materials featuring 3D exercises. Partners will launch an eLearning platform to broaden access and enrich vocational training with essential green and digital skills, thereby fostering greater sustainability and innovation within the sector. Additionally, the project will provide a comprehensive guide for trainers and undertake widespread dissemination activities.

According to the European Union, the circular economy plays an important part for the sustainable construction, as it is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible which will be integrated into timber construction.

InnoRenew CoE is leading the work package for Promotion & Sustainability, developing the detailed Educational Framework and planning and executing the training experience methodology. Educational material created will be used by trainers and professionals and in combination with the eLearning platform will aid students and individuals in learning and growing their knowledge of sustainability and enhance their digital skills.

The WENUS project plays an important role in advancing sustainable wood construction by improving the digital and green skills of professionals and students. Through circular economy integration, 3D printing technology, and an eLearning platform, the project fosters innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility in the construction sector.
