Slovenian state forests (SiDG) is a state company that aims to manage the use, disposal and purchase of forest land within state forests. Slovenia is a forested country, with almost 60 percent of its surface area covered by woodlands, 20 percent of which are state forests.

InnoRenew CoE successfully collaborated with SiDG in the action for planting oak trees in Izola. Some trees were symbolically planted in 2020, and this year, the remaining oaks were planted in Baredi, Izola. Planting trees can positively affect climate change, reduce carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere and regulate emissions caused by human actions.

“We think that our collaboration with InnoRenew CoE is crucial because, in this way, we can transfer new findings into practice,” Robert Tomazin, SiDG director, said.

Additionally, he emphasized the possibility for future cooperation with the institute to strengthen the forest-wood chain in Slovenia and jointly design a new brand for Slovenian timber, which would be recognizable throughout Europe and beyond.

Dr Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, is looking forward to further collaboration with SiDG.
