Dr. Elif Yurttaş, researcher at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, received the Biomaterials Research Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions in wood science engineering and sustainable bio-based materials.

In 2022 she was a guest researcher at InnoRenew CoE, where she collaborated with Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf and conducted research on coating wood particles with silica crystals, imparting heat resistance for later use in composites.

Through her innovative research on wood-polymer composites, lignin-based nanomaterials and functional engineered wood products, Dr. Yurttaş has made a significant contribution to sustainable materials and circular-economy–driven innovation.
