Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf, Marica Mikuljan and dr. Tania Langella, InnoRenew CoE researchers, together with dr. Jaka Gašper Pečnik and dr. Laetitia Marrot, from the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), recently published a new scientific article “Preliminary assessment of alkali-resistant flax based meshes for reinforcing cementitious composites,” in Sustainable Materials and Technologies.
The production of textile-reinforced concrete requires less materials and energy in comparison with conventional concrete reinforced with steel rebars. In this study authors investigated the development of flax based meshes as basic components for a reinforcement grid in cementitious materials. Results show that alkali‑resistant flax meshes can be a promising sustainable reinforcement choice in construction materials.
