ARCHI-SKIN project in the ERC report

Mapping Frontier Research is an initiative of the ERC Scientific Council which aims to demonstrate how curiosity-driven research supported by the ERC is contributing to our understanding of critical issues.

For this purpose they prepared a report, Transformative change for a sustainable future, which draws on over 300 projects funded by the ERC over the last decade. Each of them contributes to understanding the profound transformation our societies need to respond, adapt, and thrive in the face of the crises of climate and nature.

In the section about Buildings and nature-inspired materials, they highlight also the ARCHI-SKIN project, which is aiming to develop a sustainable, self-healing, eco-friendly bioactive protective coating system for engineered materials, inspired by fungal biofilms, to protect surfaces while conserving energy and water.
