Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf at the BarkBuild project meeting

Dr. Matthew Schwarzkopf, InnoRenew CoE researcher, visited the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, in Riga, Latvia, to attend the General Assembly meeting of the BarkBuild project.

At the meeting partners summarized the research and progress of the project so far. The BarkBuild project addresses the societal challenges posed by climate change by developing new, durable, wood-based, low-impact building materials to replace products with a higher carbon footprint and low environmental impact.

Additionally, Dr. Schwarzkopf presented the topic of incorporating land ethic into bio-based research, and discussed cooperation opportunities in research and education between the institutions of Latvia and Slovenia.
