The European Commission prioritizes equality and diversity. To combat discrimination and promote a more equal society, the Commission has taken a proactive stance, implementing specific action plans and measures. One of the initiatives is the annual EU Diversity Month, which raises awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and across our societies. The European Diversity Month 2023 is celebrated in May.
Helena Dalli, EU Commissioner for Equality is convinced that diversity and inclusion “foster cohesive communities and capitalise on innovation and growth. During May 2023 we celebrate European Diversity Month and take a firm stance for diverse, inclusive and equal workplaces.”
The research institute InnoRenew CoE recognizes and embraces the power of diversity in all its operations.
“We are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels good,” said Dr. Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director and added: “We are convinced that the diversity we are creating at InnoRenew CoE is leading us in our successful work.”
Currently there are 63 employees at InnoRenew CoE, coming from 20 countries from all around the globe – Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Croatia, Czech, Finland, France, Ghana, Hungary, India, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia, USA. Among them there are 48 % of women and 52 % of men. The balanced gender diversity among the institute’s employees is an important effort of the institute, which is addressed also in the Gender Equality Plan. It was completed and adopted in 2021, and it is surely significantly contributing to the successes and innovations of the team.
Moreover, at InnoRenew CoE there are currently 18 employees enrolled in doctoral studies from various —renewable materials for healthy built environments, kinesiology, pedagogy, chemistry, science communication and computer science, which is encouraging data for the future of science, and is additionally promoting an equal and diverse workplace.
Diversity at InnoRenew CoE goes even beyond. The institute is proud to have a mixed team of researchers from a variety of countries, cultures, academic and research fields. This blend of backgrounds fosters an environment that supports innovation and breakthroughs. Research at InnoRenew CoE covers different topics related to renewable materials and sustainable construction, all from materials, buildings, advanced manufacturing, health, information processing, and creativity & society.
The research institute InnoRenew CoE is committed to continue with promotion of diversity in different areas and in creating an environment where everyone can feel comfortable and valued.
