The European Commission created the New European Bauhaus, a creative and interdisciplinary initiative connecting all Europeans to together co-create future ways of living. It combines efforts of the European Green Deal with art, culture, social inclusion, science and technology for a sustainable, inclusive and beautiful future.
The New European Bauhaus advocates the use of natural materials in construction, which can make a significant contribution when combating the climate change. Much about this was said at the Woodrise 2022, one of the world’s most important conferences in modern sustainable construction. Woodrise 2022 was organized by InnoRenew CoE and the University of Primorska, under the honourable patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.
Among the keynote speakers was Dr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the mastermind behind the development of the New European Bauhaus, whose inspirational speech highlighted the urgency of action to mitigate climate change: “If we keep global warming below two degrees, which is very difficult to achieve, we can prevent many natural disasters. We can achieve this by fundamentally transforming the built environment and by using more wood, which is storing the carbon dioxide.”
