The 53rd annual meeting of the International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRG53) took place 29 May – 2 June 2022 in Bled, Slovenia.

Dr. Veerapandian Ponnuchamy and Faksawat Poohpajai, InnoRenew CoE researchers from the Wood Modification group, attended the event and presented their research.

Dr. Ponnuchamy spoke in the Processes and Properties session about molecular dynamics investigation of wood modification with furfuryl alcohol.

Faksawat Poohpajai presented her research study on the dynamics of fungi colonization on the surface of Scots pine wood during natural weathering in different European climate zones.

With five diverse sessions, the IRG53 conference aimed at reaching beyond the research and industry community and historical scope of wood preservation.
