This autumn, Slovenian national television started to broadcast documentary-educational shows that present less prominent research topics. The station’s editorial board decided that one of the subjects would be woodworking and the use of wood since Slovenia is one of the most forested countries in Europe, and wood is one of the country’s greatest natural resources.
The documentary Uporabimo les (Let’s use wood) aired in two parts on national television and featured stories about individuals who work with wood from different perspectives. The role of wood in environmental preservation for future generations was emphasized because wood can store carbon dioxide for centuries.
Dr Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director, took part in the documentary and presented her view on woodworking, its unused potential and its current status in Slovenia and around the world.
One example is the cascading use of wood so that, for instance, at the end of a product’s life, it can become a high-quality product instead of waste. Further, Slovenia has an opportunity in light of the European Union’s new climate goals; the Slovenian wood industry will be crucial in achieving a low-carbon society by 2030.
