“Ljudje in zemlja” (People and Earth) is an educational show that airs on national television every Sunday. During the 16 May 2021 show, there was a longer report about our greatest natural treasure – wood.
This topic was discussed with representatives from Slovenian state forests, Solis Straža company, Smart industries, Marles Hiše Maribor and InnoRenew CoE.
Eva Prelovšek Niemelã, InnoRenew CoE’s architect, presented why the institute’s new building in Izola will be a research project itself.
“It is a verification of latest scientific findings in the field of architecture, construction and wood science,” Prelovšek Niemelã said. “We wanted to create a space that completely regenerates people physically and mentally, and wood plays an important role in this.”
Sensors for monitoring temperature and humidity are already installed in the building that will allow researchers to monitor how wood changes with time. After completion of constriction, additional measurements of static displacements and vibrations will be carried out to determine seismic safety.
The InnoRenew CoE building will not only be the largest wooden building in Slovenia but also a research center with state-of-the-art research equipment.
“We are opening new opportunities for collaboration, and we are combining the interdisciplinary knowledge of our researchers with the economy,” said Dr Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director. “We are creating built environments of the future, where we are combining positive effects of wood on human health and well-being and on the environment.”
