In September 2022, the research institute InnoRenew CoE and University of Primorska will host one of the most important world conferences in the field of contemporary sustainable construction. Woodrise 2022 will bring distinguished international experts in multistory timber construction to the Slovenian coast, presenting architectural and engineering achievements from the field.
Woodrise 2022 will take place 6-7 September 2022 in Portorož, Slovenia, where best practical examples of sustainable construction from around the world will be presented. On 8-9 September 2022, the conference will offer technical and business tours of the construction and wood processing industry in Slovenia and surrounding area. Slovenia is just a short ride away from major companies currently dictating the development of modern global timber architecture.
Dr Iztok Šušteršič, conference president and InnoRenew CoE’s Sustainable Buildings with Renewable Materials research group leader, commended the Woodrise Alliance’s decision to entrust InnoRenew CoE and University of Primorska with organizing and hosting Woodrise 2022.
“We are very honored that the international alliance of universities, institutes and research centers, which oversees the organization of Woodrise conferences, trusted us with such an important event,” Dr Šušteršič said.
Woodrise international conferences — this year’s to be held in Kyoto, Japan — attract more than a thousand visitors from all over the world. In addition to the established tall timber construction theme, Woodrise 2022 will add a focus on the use of wood for renovation of existing buildings. The European Union recognizes building renovation as extremely important in the European Green Deal, and innovative renovation techniques will shape the future of European construction.
“We also want to attract participants from Slovenia and South-Eastern Europe where sustainable timber construction is not yet as recognized, but due to European environmental goals, it will have to evolve in the near future,” Dr Šušteršič pointed out. “Presentations of international achievements and discussions with designers and contractors will surely effectively contribute to raising awareness.”
International speakers at Woodrise 2022 will share their views and present their experiences with renovation, rehabilitation and restoration of urban buildings using innovative technologies in wooden construction. Participants will also learn about a six-story concrete building in Melbourne, Australia, that was recently upgraded with ten timber floors. Before the main conference sessions, participants will have an opportunity to learn about influential research projects and achievements in timber construction and participate in thematic workshops, where the latest findings on key characteristics of tall timber construction will be presented.
Woodrise 2022 registration is expected open in autumn 2021. For more information, follow the conference’s social media channels and webpage.
