The European Commission recently launched #EUwomen4future, a new campaign that draws attention to outstanding women working in research, innovation, education, culture and sport.
This prestigious campaign was announced by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and features 23 extraordinary women from different fields. Ten of these women fall under the science, research and innovation category, including two Slovenians – Ladeja Godina Košir, Circular Change director, and Dr Andreja Kutnar, InnoRenew CoE director. The list also includes Marie Sklodowska-Curie, a pioneer in the field of radiation research and the first woman ever to receive the Nobel prize.
Dr Kutnar has accomplished many things. In addition to leading InnoRenew CoE, she is also full professor, Renewable Materials for Healthy Built Environments program coordinator and Sustainable Built Environments deputy coordinator at the University of Primorska. She was for six years part of the executive board of InnovaWood and is current president of the Society of Wood Science and Technology’s executive board. In 2016, she was recognized with the “Prometheus of Science for Excellence in Communication” award for successful multi-level communication in wood science and sustainable development. In 2018, Dr Kutnar received the distinguished “Zois Certificate of Recognition” for important scientific achievements in the field of wood science.
“I am very happy and proud to be a part of this campaign,” said Dr Kutnar. “To my colleagues, I would like to say be open to taking new opportunities, trust in yourself and do not forget to have fun along the way!”
